Biography & Legacy
Wikipedia Article →Born on May 14, 1997, with proud ancestral roots in Bamnoli village of Jhajjar district, Haryana, Manushi Chhillar made international history by winning the Miss World 2017 crown, ending India's seventeen-year drought on the global beauty stage since Priyanka Chopra's victory in 2000. Raised in a distinguished family dedicated to healthcare, science, and intellectual excellence—her father Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar is an esteemed scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and her mother Dr. Neelam Chhillar is an associate professor and department head of neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences—Manushi demonstrated academic brilliance from childhood. While pursuing her medical degree (MBBS) at the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Khanpur Kalan, Sonipat, she balanced rigorous clinical studies with classical Kuchipudi dance training under legendary gurus Raja and Radha Reddy. Entering the competitive pageant world with intellect, poise, and purpose, she won Femina Miss India 2017, earning the privilege to represent India at the 67th Miss World pageant held in Sanya, China. During the final question-and-answer round, her poignant response about a mother’s profession deserving the highest respect, love, and salary won hearts across continents. Concurrently, her Beauty with a Purpose campaign, titled Project Shakti, aimed at improving menstrual hygiene and female healthcare across rural India, earned international acclaim; she distributed low-cost sanitary pads and educated thousands of women across forty villages in Haryana and North India. Following her global reign, Manushi transitioned smoothly to Hindi cinema, making her acting debut opposite Akshay Kumar in the historical epic Samrat Prithviraj (2022), portraying Princess Sanyogita. She has continued to showcase her versatile screen presence in aerial action thriller Operation Valentine and high-octane entertainer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Combining intellectual depth, medical acumen, and artistic elegance, Manushi Chhillar stands as a modern symbol of empowered Haryanvi womanhood who champions progressive social transformation while shining on the world's most prestigious stages.
