Biography & Legacy

Wikipedia Article →

Born on March 9, 1970, in Hisar, Haryana, Naveen Jindal is a visionary industrialist, champion marksman, dedicated philanthropist, and statesman who serves as Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL). The youngest son of legendary industrial pioneer Om Prakash Jindal, Naveen completed his Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Hansraj College in Delhi before earning an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1992, where he served as President of the Student Government and received the prestigious Student Leader of the Year Award. Returning to India, he took helm of JSPL, transforming it from a moderate regional manufacturing firm into an international multi-billion-dollar steel, mining, and infrastructure powerhouse focused on sustainability, clean energy, and high-efficiency manufacturing. Beyond corporate leadership, Naveen Jindal waged an epoch-making constitutional crusade for national pride. When local authorities prevented him from flying the Indian Tricolor at his plant in Raigarh in 1992, he filed a public interest petition that culminated in a historic landmark judgment by the Supreme Court of India on January 23, 2004, ruling that hoisting the National Flag with respect and dignity is a fundamental right of every Indian citizen under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution. Representing Kurukshetra for two consecutive terms in the Lok Sabha (2004–2014), Jindal championed agrarian education, women's health, and youth sports. In 2009, he established the O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in Sonipat in memory of his father, which has risen to become one of India’s foremost private multidisciplinary universities and an 'Institute of Eminence'. An elite competitive shooter, Jindal represented India in international shooting for over a decade, winning a Silver Medal in Skeet Shooting at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan. Combining corporate excellence with deep patriotism, Naveen Jindal remains a pillar of Haryana’s modern industrial, educational, and civic renaissance. Through the OP Jindal Foundation, he has spearheaded widespread philanthropic initiatives in healthcare, education, vocational training, and village infrastructure across Haryana and India. Naveen Jindal's life exemplifies how entrepreneurial leadership and civic patriotism can combine to build a progressive, self-reliant nation.
